Friday Sep 28th 
Objectives: Soil testing for your box.  
 
Assignments: 
1) Get your dirt
2) Sit with those who you work with on your box in the garden 
3) Each person will test the soil for your box 
4) Fill out the worksheet for the soil in your box
 
Monday Sep 17th 
Objective: Learn about germination & plant growth.  Check to see if the peat pellets need water & see if anything is growing.  Work on the garden, digging out extra dirt so boxes can be fixed, plant purchased winter garden cole crops. 
 
Assignments:
  1. Come in quietly 
  2. Check your planted seeds - peat pellets & the sprouting cells. Give them a little water.
    • Do you need to replant?  
  3. Look at sprouts in jars 
    • Start a new germination paper
    • Fold paper into 8 rectangles 
    • Write Germination across the top
    • Number the rectangles - see example on the board 
    • name, class & date in Box #1
    • Box #2 draw a Mung Bean Teacher will hand out 1 to each group
    • Box #3 draw a sprouted mung bean Teacher will hand out 1 to each group
    • When finished put into our class folder
  4. Sign up on board for job in garden
  5. Sit down with heads down when ready to go out to the garden - this is how you let me know you are ready!!! 
Friday Sep 14th 
Objective: Learn about germination & plant growth.  Check to see if the peat pellets need water & see if anything is growing.  Work on the garden, digging out extra dirt so boxes can be fixed, plant purchased winter garden cole crops. 
 
Assignments:

  2. Sign up to do a task in the garden.

  4. Sit down with heads down when ready to go out to the garden - this is how you let me know you are ready!!! 
 
Friday Sep 7th - You have a sub today.
Assignments:
  1. Sub should have a list on the whiteboad for you to use to sign up for one of the following tasks:
    • Weed walkways
    • Weed a box
      • Box 1
      • Box 2
      • Etc (to box 10)
    • 1 person to use the small shovel
    • 7 people to use the hand trowels
    • 2-3 people to water
 
Thursday Sep 6th - Tomorrow you will have a sub. 
Tomorrow you will work on weeding the pathways in the garden & watering it.  You will fill out your task sheet tomorrow. 
No one is to sit in the back. 
Please do not take the chairs down.
Objective: Plant flowers in peat pellets. Plant winter crop plants in sprouting box.  Learn about germination.
 
Assignments:
  1. Come in quietly or I will give you a minus 25 points each time I catch you talking anytime during the class while I'm giving instructions! 
  2. Pick up your papers from the front TA Desk 
  3. Finish drawing your seeds or the sprouted seeds on your Germination paper & turn in for grading
  4. Sit down quietly 
  5. Plant winter crop plants into 2 cells of the sprouting boxes 
  6. Groups of 9 around a table.  We will use 2 tables 
  7. Fill your 2 cells with dirt and move out of the way for another person to fill their cells 
  8. While you wait get a tag 
    1. Put your name & today's date on one side 
    2. Other side you will put what plant seeds you are given
  9. Once the cells are filled I will give you a bunch of seeds
  10. Plant the seeds in one cell and cover with a little bit of dirt - just enough you don't see the seeds 
  11. Add water to the bottom of the tray the sprouting cells are sitting in
  12. Sit back down very quietly and wait for me to excuse you. 
  13. I need 2 people willing to water the garden today after school
 
Wednesday Sep 5th - Mini Day No class!!! 
 
Tuesday Sep 4th - No one is to sit in the back.  Please do not take the chairs down. 
Objective: Plant flowers. Learn about germination.
Launch Log: 
  • Open a google doc & quickly & quietly go check your beans.
  • Save As: Your name Gardening Sep 4-7
  • Put todays date, the question and then a full sentence for the answer. 
  • How many of your seeds are sprouting? 
  • Due 10 minutes after class starts 
  • Turn into Google Classroom
  • Google Classroom Access Code wdvcu9
Assignments:
  1. Sit very quietly in your seat and wait for me!! 
  2. Plant flowers - Once we watch this video How to Plant in Peat Pellets I will call you up by rows to get what you need. 
    • Get your cup with your peat pellet in it. 
    • Get your flower seed packet.  DO NOT OPEN IT!!! 
    • Pick up a white plastic garden marker 
    • Loosen the soil on the top of the peat pellet without messing up the wrapping. 
    • I will pass out permanent markers which you will use and pass to the person next to you.  I will then pick up the marker at the end of your row.
    • Put your name on one side of the plastic garden marker 
    • Put your flower name on the other of the marker 
    • Open the flap on the top of your seed packet
    • Put 4-5 of your flower seeds in the top of the peat pellet and make sure they are covered with the peat. 
    • Put your peat pellet into the paper grow box with your marker 
  3. Check your beans.  Are any of them starting to sprout?  
    • If so you need to get your paper from the class folder and draw what you see in the 2nd box on the left. 
    • Rinse off the towels! 
  4. Soak another peat pellet for tomorrow! 
  5. Watch videos & read articles & take notes from them 
 
 
Friday Aug 31st - No one is to sit in the back.  Please do not take the chairs down. 
Objective: Plant flowers. Learn about germination.
Assignments:
  1. Check your beans.  Are any of them starting to sprout?  
    • If so you need to get your paper from me and draw what you see in the 2nd box on the left. 
    • Rinse off the towels! 
  2. Plant flowers 
    • Get your cup with your peat pellet in it  
    • Pour off the water 
    • Pay attention to me - I will show you how to plant in the peat pellet 
    • Put your name in a square on the printed paper.  This is for the paper planting box so you know which square is yours! 
Thursday Aug 30Sit in the 1st 3 rows only!  No one is to sit in the back!!! 
Take a chair down and sit quietly and read through this web page. 
 
Objective: Get boxes ready for repair. We have a volunteer willing to come in this weekend and fix our boxes for us.  We need to dig out the extra dirt out from the boxes and take out any screws or nails that are in the loose boards. Set the loose boards to the side out of the way with the screws down into the dirt until we can get to taking out the screws. 
 
Assignments:
  1. 1 person (different from yesterday!) from your group needs to rinse off your bean plate & check to see if anything is sprouting from the beans!  If it is let me know ASAP!! 
    • Your job is to make sure the plate is rinsed off!!! 
  2. As a class we will go over the task chart & decide what needs to be done today for each task and who is doing it. 
  3. Put up chairs before we leave for the garden. 
  4. Line up by the door when your chair is up. 
  5. Take out the shovels out to the garden. 
  6. Everyone will do their assigned tasks.
  7. Start digging out the extra dirt in the boxes so the boxes can be fixed this coming weekend. 
    • Some people will have the shovels 
    • Some people will need to use the hand trowels
 
Wednesday Aug 29
Objective Get boxes ready for repair. We have a volunteer willing to come in this weekend and fix our boxes for us.  We need to dig out the extra dirt out from the boxes and take out any screws or nails that are in the loose boards. Set the loose boards to the side out of the way with the screws down into the dirt until we can get to taking out the screws. 
Classwork
1) 1 person from your group need to rinse off your bean plate 
Your job is to make sure it was done!!! 
2) Go out to my car - once everyone is quiet 
Take out the shovels & drip hose
3) 1 person waters all the boxes without getting anyone wet!! 
4) Start diggin out the extra dirt in the boxes so the boxes can be fixed this coming weekend. 
 
Tuesday Aug 28 
Objective A) Start documenting germination of beans.
B) Get boxes ready for repair. We have a volunteer willing to come in this weekend and fix our boxes for us.  We need to dig out the extra dirt out from the boxes and take out any screws or nails that are in the loose boards. Set the loose boards to the side out of the way with the screws down into the dirt until we can get to taking out the screws. 
Classwork
1) Bean Plates
- Get into groups of 4
- Each group gets 1 small plate
- Draw a + sign on the plate to separate it into 4ths
- Write your 1st name on the inside edge of your corner of the plate
- 1 person in your group get a piece of paper towel thats about 20 inches long
- Paper needs to be folded to fit the plate
- Get the paper damp
- Each person needs to get 2 beans - 1 of each type - and put it in your square on the plate.
- Place the plate on the back of the counter near the sink
2) Peat Pellet
- Get a small plastic cup
- Put your name on it with permanent marker
- Get 1 peat pellet
- Put the pellet into the cup and cover it with water
- Set the cup on the back of the counter
 
Monday Aug 27
Objective: Learn how plants grow.  
Materials Needed: 1 piece of plane paper, 1 unbroken bean, 1 pencil
Task 1: Sign in by putting a check mark by your name under today's date
Task 2: Fold your paper into 8th's. (long side to long side once, top to bottom twice)

Top Left rectangle define the word germination
Top right rectangle draw a picture of your bean 
Put your beans into the cup of water, we will soak them over night.
